I Accountability Objectives:

Supervises, plans and organizes activities of Central Sterile Processing department personnel on the afternoon shift to

ensure completion of sterilization and processing of equipment, including providing general direction to other area

staff, assigning and coordinating specific work responsibilities under the direction of the Manager, Sterile Processing.

II Position Qualifications:

Minimum Education, Licensure / Certification and Experience Required.

A. Education

Associate's Degree in health care or science-related field, or equivalent combination of education and work

experience.

B. Licensure / Certification

Current certification as Certified Sterile Processing Technician by the Certification Board for Sterile

Processing and Distribution (CSSPD).

C Special Skill / Aptitudes

Sharp clerical skills including keyboarding 25 wpm, data entry, report retrieval, and filing.

Ability to develop associate relations utilizing a calm, flexible manner in order to ensure productivity and

customer service standards are met.

Ability to cope with high levels of stress while making appropriate decisions under pressure with minimal

direction in a busy work environment.

Excellent customer service orientation skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of

hospital personnel, outside customers and community groups.

D. Experience

Five (5) years working experience in central sterile processing area.

Three (3) years experience as a Certified Central Sterile Processing Technician.

One year experience in management preferred.

III Duties / Responsibilities:

1 Supervises, plans and organizes work of Central Sterile Processing staff on afternoon and/or midnight shift.

2 Ensures appropriate staffing levels are maintained. Organizes and schedules work assignments to ensure case

preparation is appropriate for current and future assignments.

3 Provides input into staff selection, performance appraisals and associate discipline. Assists in educating the

staff in job duties to ensure compliance with department standards.

4 Coordinates and prioritizes activities as they relate to instrumentation/case cart supply issues. Develops

daily assignments for staff and makes necessary adjustments to staffing levels based upon the needs of the

department.

5 Communicates approved policies and procedures to team and provides guidance accordingly. Recommends

changes to policies and procedures to subordinates and ensures compliance. Recommends changes to

policies and procedures and may participate in the development and implementation.

6 Anticipates supply and instrumentation needs by coordinating and supervising material requirements for

surgical case carts filling supply orders from preference sheets, finding special or missing items, sequencing

supplies, and communicating with Sterile Processing to ensure supplies are in their appropriate location.

Follows through and resolves issues regarding problematic instrument trays/case carts.

7 Prepares, monitors and audits sterilization systems. Maintains appropriate sterilization records for

sterilization systems.

8 Assists in preparing the annual capital budget for Sterile Processing in identification of needs, research of

prices and products and justification. Assists in monitor and cost containment activities to meet budget and

mission requirements, such as bi-annual physical inventory and value analysis assignments.

9 Ensures that education criteria are met to remain certified for profession.

10 Serves as a liaison to OR on the off-shift, working with the Manager, Central Sterile Processing to ensure

coordination of activities to meet 24/7 needs of department.

11 Performs other duties as assigned.
