Description:

Responsible for performing various food service duties and providing customer service for the Nutrition Services Department supporting the clinical dietitian, individual nursing units, and patients.

Preferred Guest Services background. Order taking via the phone and order entry of selections into the computer.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Minimum: Strong attention to detail. Basic math skills to perform cashier transactions, including addition, subtraction, and simple multiplication. Ability to count back appropriate change within established $5.00 accuracy policy. Ability to learn food safety guidelines. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to speak and write English to interact with and perform customer service transactions (including food purchase transactions, quality, and equipment) with a primarily English speaking population of guests and patients.

Computer Competency

Shows how to use a standard desktop and windows based computer system, including a basic understanding of email, e-learning, intranet and computer navigation. Ability to use other software as required to perform the essential functions of the job.

Minimum

  • Bend, twist, reach and walk frequently (70%-90% of the time).

  • Processes room service orders in an accurate and professional, courteous manner. Processes guest trays within same delivery standard and follows accurate gift card /charge handling procedures.

  • Interacts with patients and family members by order taking via the phone and inputting menu selections into the computer.

  • Communicates and collaborates with patients, families, dietitians, Nursing and management regarding dietary needs/activities. Promotes positive customer service relations between Nutrition Services and Nursing units, patients, families, and all other people they come in contact with.

  • Maintains the CBORD Card Files. Processes all paperwork from printer, fax machine, and POS system efficiently and accurately. Completes all paperwork daily, including tallies, floor stock sheets, and late items.

  • Assist with the delivery and pick-up of trays from patients. Delivers snacks, and floor stock as appropriate.

  • Rotate floor stock in pantries and refrigerators appropriately. Keeps pantries organized and at established par levels.

  • Maintains knowledge of profession, safe food handling and sanitation.

  • Communicates with staff, patients, management and other customers regarding food purchases/quality and equipment.

  • Operates cash register system for transactions and information into the register system.

  • Receives payment by cash, credit/debit card, voucher, ID badge or gift card. Maintains cash drawer within established $5.00 accuracy policy.

  • Sorts, counts and wraps currency and coins.

  • Establishes or identifies prices of goods. Issues receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers.

  • Cleans, sanitizes, organizes, stocks and removes trash.

  • Operates, breaks down, assembles, cleans and refills beverage units.

  • Monitors and documents refrigerator temperatures.

  • Follows sanitation and safety guidelines as determined by departmental policies and procedures, and food safety regulations.

  • Assists in helping customers answer questions, finding items or functions they might need help with.

  • Maintains clean and orderly checkout areas.

  • Resolves customer complaints.

  • Communicates with cooks, supervisor and other staff regarding food quality, product availability and equipment.

  • Assembles trays and/or serves food according to serving portion/guidelines and ensures that the quality of food meets or exceeds these guidelines.

  • Assembles trays such that all trays are accurate and delivered within established guidelines

  • Reads production tally and organizes workload to have food items prepared by the specified deadlines in sufficient quantity.

  • Utilizes resources to reduce or eliminate waste.

  • Maintains equipment and work area by cleaning, organizing and sanitizing throughout the shift using proper cleaning and sanitizing methods.

  • Responsible for overall food quality as measured by Customer and Patient Satisfaction scores.

  • Monitors and documents food/warmer/refrigerator temperatures.

  • Sets up, maintains and breaks down work area within established timeframes.

  • Gathers, washes, & puts away dry dishes

  • Maintains accurate records of patient diet orders.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
