Position Purpose:

Responsible for the transporting of patients throughout the hospital with appropriate equipment and in a safe and in a timely manner.

Details:

Patient Care Provides Age Specific Competent Care to Population in Served Department

• Follows 2 patient ID policies remembering to never remove patient from floor without ID wrist band

• Demonstrates ability to recognize and communicate nurse, physician and/or technologist a change in patient’s condition

• Demonstrates good judgment in selecting proper mode of communication when interacting with various populations served (pediatric, adult, geriatric, etc.); introducing self to patient and telling them where they are going

• Assists in providing patient/comfort, privacy and confidentiality

• Demonstrates good judgment in selecting proper mode of “transportation”.

Maintains Patient Safety in Preparation For Transport To Ancillary Areas As Well As Upon Return To Unit

• Position patients properly taking into account patient impairment, skin conditions, pain, size, age, etc.

• Able to perform CPR and emergency measures

• Follows any patient safety alerts, especially fall precautions

• Applies brakes on wheelchair and stretchers whenever assisting transfer or leaving patient

• Never leaves patient alone on stretcher with side rails down.

• Moves wheelchair footrests and legs away before patient stands

• Properly completes a hand off communication with every transport (“ticket to ride”/passport), including alerting receiving staff of patient’s arrival

• Obtains assistance when needed

Demonstrates Proper Infection Control Practices and Precautions in All Patient Care Activities

• Cleans patient contact surfaces with disinfecting agent between all transports and maintain adequate supply of cleaning agents

Use of Equipment According To Manufacturer's Guidelines

• Respond promptly and courteously to internal communication and directions, keeping equipment in working order each shift; return equipment at the completion of each shift

• Maintains an adequate portable O2 supply

• Inspects and reports safety hazards and broken transport devices for repair
