Part-time, 24 hours/week

This position will work a rotating schedule with weekend and call rotations. Shift length is generally 8 hours.

General Summary

The CSR Central Sterile and Reprocessing Specialist is responsible for cleaning all contaminated instruments and materials from Main OR, ASF, Labor and Delivery, Cath Lab, Hemodialysis and Emergency Room. This includes loading and operating the washers, assembling instrument trays and operating autoclaves, while maintaining quality standards. The CSR circulates case carts after receiving preference cards from surgical sites. The CSR also responds to requests for unexpected needs and emergency items 24 hrs a day 7 days a week.

CSR Central Sterile & Reprocessing Specialist Required Education, Experience and Certification/Licensure

  • Requires minimum of High School Diploma or GED.

  • Successful completion of an accredited Central Sterile Reprocessing program or six to twelve months of relevant experience desired.

  • Certification in Sterile Reprocessing desired. If non-certified, must obtain certification within one year from date of hire.

  • Preference will be given to those with prior Sterile Processing experience.

CSR Central Sterile and Reprocessing Specialist Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Cleans contaminated instruments and trays using proper cleaning techniques that include knowledge of manufactures recommendations for care and handling. Uses proper attire and safety standards. Understands OSHA guidelines regarding body substance isolation.

  • May clean and assemble vendor instrument sets/specialty instrument sets and maintain relationships with vendors .

  • Reprocesses vendor/specialty instrument sets and trays using advanced techniques.

  • Operates complex washers utilizing proper quality and safety standards.

  • Understands need for hand washing of micro instruments and electronic devices.

  • Assembles and labels instruments for sterilization. Understands the differences between instruments and completes sets with minimal errors. Able to assemble sets from multiple services such as orthopedic, neuro, cardiothoracic, general surgery, ENT, urology, gyn, and plastic surgery.

  • Autoclaves items based on manufacture recommendations. Understand quality parameters for autoclave. Understands the operation of steam and llll sterilizers. Review sterilizer output before releasing items for storage or use.
